Mighty Sports gives way as Jacob Lao’s Strong Group to rep PH in Dubai meet

A Philippine team will still be carrying the fight for Mighty Sports in the upcoming 32nd Dubai International Basketball Championship.

Strong Group Realty will be the country’s representative in the annual meet that returns after a two year hiatus.

The tournament will take place from January 27-February 5, 2023.

Mighty Sports team owner Caesar Wongchuking gave way to Strong Group’s Jacob Lao to help continue the latter’s rapid transition from being a student-athlete to a sports official.

“Representing the country is one thing to be proud off already but I’m really excited to be part of something special with a special set of guys. We will be announcing our players in the next few days,” said Lao, an Atenean who is set to become Converge’s assistant team manager next year.

The team will still have Charles Tiu as head coach.

Back in 2020, Tiu steered Mighty Sports to the top of the Dubai tournament, becoming the first non-Arab team to win it all.
