Another new franchise has committed to join the Philippine Basketball Association’s 3×3 tournament.
Master Sardines has already submitted its letter of intent to join the league’s inaugural staging of 3×3 basketball.
Master Sardines will initially play for one season which consists of three conferences.
Wanting to give jobs to the Filipino basketball players is what made Master Sardines join PBA 3×3.
“Universal canning, makers of master sardines is excited to be part of the PBA 3×3 and looking forward to duplicating our success in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas Calambubble,” said team manager Alvin Munio.
The team will carry the moniker Fishing Champs.
Master Sardines, or Universal Canning in general, is no stranger to Philippine basketball.
Back in 2019, Universal Canning had two teams in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League in Bacolod-Master Sardines and Zamboanga-Family’s Brand Sardines. It featured both homegrown players and budding superstars like Alvin Pasaol, Santi Santillan, Aaron Black, and Anton Asistio.
Both Master and Family’s Brand also joined the 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup with the former finishing in sixth place while the latter winning it all.
Master Sardines fielded Asistio, Chris Lalata, Choi Ignacio, Alfred Batino, and Robin Roño in that tournament while Family’s Brand Sardines had Joshua Munzon, Pasaol, Troy Rike, and Santillan.
Asistio, Munzon, Pasaol, Rike, and Santillan have already been drafted to the PBA.
This time around, Master Sardines will not carry the province of Bacolod. It will soon announce its monicker.
Master Sardines will also announce their lineup soon.
