James De Los Santos snares gold in SportData World Series

Another tournament, another gold for James De Los Santos.

World no. 1 e-kata karateka De Los Santos took down familiar foe Matias Moreno-Domont in the finals to bag the gold in the fifth Leg of the 2020 SportData e-Tournament World Series, Sunday.

This is the 30-year-old’s second gold in the world series and 24th for the season.

“I’m widening the gap even further in the eKata world rankings since this e-tournament is nearly four times the amount of ranking points,” he said.

“Forward is the only way to go!”

De Los Santos scored a 24.9 with Unsu to topple the Swiss’ 23.7 with Kishimoto no Kushanku in the finals.

The two-time Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist earlier defeated Romania’s Andrei Gabriel Nedelcu, 24.6 of Gojushiho Dai over 23.7 in Anan Dai in the Round of 16.

He then moved on to the semifinals after winning his last-eight battle with Lukas Grimm of Germany, 24.4 of Gojushiho against 23.2 of Suparinpei.

In the semifinals, De Los Santos went through the ringer, but still edged out South Africa’s Salvio Cerone-Biagoni, 24.4-24.1 with Sansai.

With the win in the main series, De Los Santos is expected to add to his lead in the rankings which stand at 11920.00 points pending the inclusion of this tournament. Eduardo Garcia of Portugal remains at 8740.00.
