Another Racela takes over as Far Eastern University’s chief mentor
All-timie PBA great Olsen Racela has been tapped by Far Eastern University to steer the Tamaraws in their UAAP Season 80 campaign. The school made the announcement through their official website Tuesday evening.
Immediately after retiring in 2011, Racela was tapped as the head coach of the Petron Blaze Boosters, now the San Miguel Beermen. He compiled a 29-23 record with Petron, 7-8 in the playoffs. He was replaced by Gee Abanilla during the 2013 Governors Cup.
From then, he became part of the coaching staff of Tim Cone with the Star Hotshots and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel while serving as analyst in ABS-CBN’s NCAA telecast.
Olsen is taking over brother Nash, who steered FEU to its title only title this decade.
The 46-year-old will inherit a team that lost Monbert Arong and Raymar Jose to graduation. Transferees Hubert Cani, Arvin Tolentino, and JR Parker will be eligible for his first foray into college coaching.
The team will retain assistant coaches Josh Reyes, Gilbert Lao, and Eric Gonzales.
FEU will be the hosts for the 80th season of the league.
