Edward Kelly suffers technical decision loss to Xie Bin

In the first of five fights for Team Lakay, Edward Kelly could not come out with the win as he suffered a rare technical decision loss against Xie Bin, Friday evening during ONE: Dawn of Heroes at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The stoppage came with 3:32 left, after the 35-year-old athlete out of Baguio suffered a head injury.

Just one minute and 28 seconds into the second round, Xie rained punches and fists on a prone Kelly. However, some connected to the back of Kelly’s head, prompting the referee to call for injury time.

Kelly could not make it out of the five-minute break, resulting in the immediate decision.

Kelly was taken down four times in the course of the match. He fell to 12-7, losing four of his last seven bouts. Meanwhile, Bin raised his slate to 8-2.

In the first bout of the evening, Muhammad Aiman climbed up to 6-3 after outlasting Indonesian warrior Sunoto (11-6).

Later on, Ayaka Miura (9-2) submitted Brazilian Samara Santos (12-7) with a modified kimura early in the second round. On the other hand, Miao Li Tao (12-3) took a dominant unanimous decision win over Pongsiri Mitsatit (10-3).
