Dunoo, man behind ‘Lakad matatag!’, passes away due to COVID-19

One of the most iconic voices in Philippine esports has passed away this morning.

Aldrin Paulo Pangan, popularly known as ‘Kuya Dunoo’ in the gaming scene, fell victim to COVID-19, Friday.

Pangan rose to prominence back in 2018 when he and his partner Marlon ‘Lon’ Marcelo put up an exhilarating shout casting performance during the Fnatic-Team Secret match in the ESL One Katowice.

The clip eventually made waves in the Dota 2 community, which prompted Valve to make chat wheels items out of each part of the final call in the match which Fnatic won via a nail-biting backdoor attempt.

Valve produced five items from the clip, but none more iconic than the “Lakad Matatag! Normalin! Normalin!” phrase shouted by the two.

Pub stompers were not the only ones who abused the chat wheel, but also professional players in The International 8.

The “Lakad Matatag! Normalin! Normalin!” along with the other four chat wheel items played a crucial role in OG’s Cinderella run in TI8.

Known as a bunch of meme lovers, the European squad led by Johan “N0tail” Sundstein and Sébastien “Ceb” Debs used the Pinoy chat wheel to tilt opponents in the biggest stage of Dota 2 and eventually, lift the first Aegis in OG history.

OG, who spammed different chat wheels 2,038 times during TI8, was the leading user of “Lakad Matatag! Normalin! Normalin!” with 305 out of 1,047.

Aside from this, Pangan, who started his career with Mineski, also played a huge role in LuponWxC’s rise in the Philippine Esports scene.

Different esports personalities have already paid their tributes to the fallen shoutcasting icon.
