Even if the Meralco Bolts lost yet another match Friday evening, Reynel Hugnatan had a reason to smile about.
The 15-year veteran had just joined the 5000-point club during the Bolts’ clash with NLEX at the Cuneta Astrodome. Needing just three points, Hugnatan made it in when he scored his fourth point with 5:39 in the opening frame.
He was then given by the league officials, headed by Commissioner Willie Marcoal, a small glass trophy during the game’s halftime break to celebrate the personal achievement.
“Sobrang happy kasi part ako ng elite na 5K-point club. Bihira lang yun. Blessed akong makasama ako doon,” shared Hugnatan, who finished with 10 points on 40 percent shooting in the Orangemen’s 85-87 loss.
“I’m happy. Kumbaga, happy na ako sa career ko, kumbaga, naabot ko na yung 5,000, naka-15 years na ako,” added the 39-year-old from Bacolod.
“Blessed na ako siguro umabot ako sa ganito, tapos nakaabot pa ko sa 5,000 points.”
The Bolts may be having a hard time this 2017-18 Philippine Cup, but individual accolades have been the highlight of their conference. Before Hugnatan, KG Cañaleta made it in the 5K club last January 11 in a loss to Alaska.
