The hottest rivalry in Philippine collegiate sports goes digital at 2PM on May 2 when Ateneo De Manila University’s LG Esports goes up against De La Salle University’s Viridis Arcus in the championship match of the AcadArena VALORANT University Alliance Cup Season 2.
Even outside of the two school’s histories in the traditional sports space, the history between VA and LG is real.
In the past season, VA took the edge over LG 3-1 to be crowned the first-ever champion of the UAC. In what seems to be set by fate, the Green Archers are once again facing off against the Blue Eagles to raise the campus torch.
This season’s tourney started out with USC’s Warrior’s Arena and the FIT iTamaraws leading their respective groups in Division A and Division B. But come playoffs, Viridis Arcus and LG Esports took it up a notch and stepped up their play from groups to outlast the competition.
LG Esports swept through their side of the bracket getting 2-0 after 2-0 against HAU’s Valiant Esports and the formidable Warrior’s Arena. Meanwhile, Viridis Arcus took it step-by-step getting close 2-1 victories against the TUP-M Gearhawks and the Itamaraws to reach the finals.
The University Alliance Cup is the Philippines’ most prestigious campus esports tournament with competing teams all over the country. This season featured 24 teams in 2 divisions fighting for full-ride scholarships and a bonus P120,000 in cash, grants, and limited merchandise.
The UAC is a franchise-style league limited to schools in AcadArena’s Alliance Network and is set to launch its League of Legends: Wild Rift league starting May 15, 2021.
