Generika-Ayala Lifesavers skipper Angeli Araneta hurt her left knee after a bad landing late in the fifth set against the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, Saturday evening.
With the match at an 11-all stalemate, Araneta committed an attack error that gave the Cargo Movers a gasp for air. She then took it upon herself to amend the situation by taking a point back via a spike over the outstretched arms of Majoy Baron and Kalei Mau, which successfully went in.
However, the moment the ball found the floor, Araneta also fell to the ground. She was clearly in pain while holding her left leg.
“Pumalo ako di ‘ba? Pero sabay naman kasi yung land ko, pero pa-side, so may parang kumalas ta’s bumalik. Then sobrang nag-vibrate siya, so sobrang sakit talaga,” the 5-foot-10 spiker recounted.
“Siguro, seven over ten yung sakit.”
The paramedics then rushed in to aid Araneta, before carrying her off the court and to the bench.
She finished with 11 points and 27 excellent digs.
After the game, Araneta was seen walking with the help of crutches. She disclosed that the team’s staff has yet to determine the initial diagnosis, but that based on a brief check, her knee is swollen.
“Hopefully nothing serious lang talaga,” the 25-year-old said.
“Tomorrow kasi wala yug MRI so sa Monday pa siya mache-check.”
Still, despite the loss to the league-leaders, Araneta held her head high.
“I think it’s still a good sign para sa team namin kasi meron kaming low moments. Pero ngayon parang nare-redeem ulit namin yung sarili namin. I think it’s a good start again.”
