Rob gets to play

After a long court battle, Rob Ricafort has been cleared to play for the rest of the UAAP Season 80 Men’s Basketball tournament. Ricafort’s camp was able to secure a preliminary injunction that commands the league to allow him to play, Wednesday afternoon.

Ricafort, who turns 25 on January 25, 2018, was declared ineligible days before the season, as a UAAP rule states that no student-athlete should be fielded if he/she turns 25 during the UAAP season. The season began last July and ends on June 30, 2018.

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, through Ricafort’s camp, were able to secure a temporary restraining order last September 22, 2017. The TRO had a 20-day limit.

The 6-foot-3 forward averaged 0.5 points, 1.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.5 turnovers in the five games he played.

Moreover, this will ensure that the two wins UP notched during that 20-day span will be safe for the time being.
