Prince Eze knocked off MVP race

With the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas officially booted out of the Final Four race in the NCAA Season 93 Seniors Basketball tournament, the aspirations of Nigerian student-athlete Prince Eze to win this season’s Most Valuable Player crown were also shattered.

Eze, a third-year Perpetual student-athlete, topped the MVP race at the end the first round and is currently posting norms of 15.5 points, 17.2 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game. However, league rules strictly define that the Most Valuable Player of the league must come from a Final Four team.

Eze and the Perpetual Altas were eliminated on Tuesday afternoon after absorbing a 50-55 loss at the hands of defending champions San Beda Red Lions.

The last player who won MVP from a non-Final Four team was Ernie Sagad of the Saint Benilde Blazers back in Season 81 of the Grand Old League.

The 6-foot-11 big man will still be eligible for the other awards of the league. Moreover, he bagged the NCAA Season 93 All-Star Game MVP plum last September 1.

Remaining in the MVP race are Lyceum’s CJ Perez (18.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals) and Mike Nzeusseu (10.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks); San Beda’s Javee Mocon (12.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists); and Letran’s Rey Nambatac (16.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists).
