No worries for Baser Amer despite hurting ankle

Meralco floor general Baser Amer walked out of the Bolts’ locker room at the Mall of Asia Arena Tuesday night with a slight limp. He injured his right ankle in their 2017 Governor’s Cup quarterfinal opener against Blackwater Elite.

The six-foot point guard hurt his ankle with 39 seconds left in the second quarter, after falling awkwardly and stepping onto Elite’s Roi Sumang after taking a turnaround jumper off a strong drive to the lane.

“Pagtira ko naapakan ko yung paa ni Sumang,” said Amer.

“Ang sama, ang sama.”

The Bolts eventually lost to Blackwater, 91-92. That injury appeared to have stalled the 24-year-old’s production, as he only finished with eight points on 3-of-10 shooting to go with two rebounds, far from his 13.9 points and 3.9 rebounds average during the regular season.

But despite the sprain, Amer was a glimmer of hope for the Orangemen, giving some reassurance that his injury is nothing serious.

“Nag-sit ako nung first half pero after halftime na-feel ko na comfortable ako,” said Amer, who is turning 25 in three days.
