La Salle shoots down Adamson for solo lead


Jerrickson Oba-ob and the De La Salle University Green Shuttlers come marching in again

The Taft-based men’s badminton team finds themselves on top of the UAAP standings after dispatching the Adamson University Soaring Falcons, 5-0, as they took their second straight win of the season, Saturday morning at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

Jerrickson Oba-ob opened the sweep and secured his first win of the season with a two-game conquest of Kevin Fabros. Taking note of the Falcons’ strong showing the other day, the Green Archer denied the former from getting close — especially in that opening set — at 21-14. Fabros made some strides in the following game; only the fourth-year La Sallian finished him off at 21-17.

Glenn Camillo then opened his account this year with a strong season debut past Elben Concha in the second singles match. The former pulled away in the early parts of both frames to wrap it up at 21-12, 21-11.

For Oba-ob, this was his chance to redeem himself from last Thursday’s missed chance on a double. And he needed Cayel Pajarillo to make it happen.

The La Sallian duo did just that, as they took care of Fabros and Johnrick Macabenta to zoom to solo pole position after just two games, 21-13, 21-11. Oba-ob and Pajarillo made amends of some errors quickly and adjusted accordingly to fashion out the convincing win.

Bee Monterubio and Andrew Pineda made it four-for-four in the second doubles match past Concha and Joshua Antonio, 21-19, 21-9. Pajarillo then completed the rout with a marathon match past Macabenta, 15-21, 21-11, 19-21.

The Green Archers (2-0) will try to extend their reign on top when they battle archrivals Ateneo de Manila University (1-0) on Sunday, September 24, at 8am. On the other hand, one team from the Soaring Falcons and the University of the East Red Warriors (both 0-2) will finally taste a win when they collide on the same day and time.
