For Coach Obet: Lady Chiefs dump Lady Engineers for third win

Staying in the hunt for a Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference semis run, defending NCAA champions Arellano University Lady Chiefs whipped the Technological Institute of the Philippines Lady Engineers, 25-16, 25-15, 25-18, for their third victory in Group B at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

With head coach Obet Javier hospitalized due to gall stones, assistant coach Michael Santos said the Lady Chiefs wanted to keep up their intensity.

“Sabi ko nga sa kanila kanina na must-win para sa atin ‘yung laro na ito since may talo na tayo against Adamson,” expressed Santos. “Kahit wala si coach Obet ngayon, kailangan ipakita natin ‘yung intensity natin para hindi masayang ‘yung pinagensayuhan natin.”

The Lady Engineers’ struggles stemmed from their poor service reception. Not only did TIP give up nine service aces, they also had zero excellent receptions. Even Arellano’s 25 errors could not keep TIP in the match.

The three top scorers of the match cane from Arellano. Open hitter Regine Arocha continued to shine for the Legarda-based spikers, tallying 17 points, while Andrea Marzan and skipper Jovielyn Prado managed 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Veteran Alyssa Layug topped TIP with nine points while Jade Gentapa added four.

The Lady Chiefs (3-1) can clinch a seat in the semis with a win against the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons (2-1) on September 30. The Lady Chiefs (0-4) will end their PVL run against fellow winless squad CSB Lady Blazers (0-3) also on September 30.
