Lyceum scratches by JRU for first win

In a battle of NCAA rivals, the Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates needed to dig deep to outlast the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers 25-20, 24-26, 25-13, 25-22 in the Premier Volleyball League Women’s Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Marred by long rallies, the match took nearly two hours to resolve. The Lady Pirates gained the upper hand through a steadier attack. With both teams going north of 30 in errors, Lyceum off-set their miscues by producing 68 points off their scoring skills while JRU had just 46.

“Kino-compare ko ang laro sabi ko advantage kami sa kanila kasi nakakalaban namin sila sa NCAA. Sabi ko kulang lang sa maturity ang team ko, nakakapalo sila, nakakablock pero kapag ‘yung mga bolang instant na bumabagsak doon namin sila ico-correct,” said Lyceum’s legendary coach Emil Lontoc.

Christine Miralles led the Lady Pirates with 18 points while Cherilyn Sindayen and Roselyn Hongria piled up 15 points, each.

The Lady Pirates improves to a 1-1 slate and the face the Ateneo Lady Eagles (1-1) on Saturday.

Skipper Shola Alvarez amassed 19 markers for the winless Lady Bombers.
