J’nathan Bullock made his debut for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters on Sunday night. Though he finished with a double-double to lead his side in the win, the 30-year-old Michigan native still sees a lot of work to do personally.
“It wasn’t my best performance,” said the Cleveland State product, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds in Rain or Shine’s’ 96-84 win.
“But we were able to still get the win. Even though it wasn’t the best team in the league, it’s still a win.
What made Bullock, a replacement for JD Weatherspoon, rue his own outing was the way he had turned the ball over, as he had seven errors. And with that, the seven-year globetrotter knows that he still has plenty of adjusting to do.
“More so with the style of play here is I gotta be able to adjust. I was fortunate to have this game right now so I can adjust and make the adjustments this week,” said Bullock, who last played in Korisliiga in Finland.
Moreover, first-year Rain or Shine head coach Caloy Garcia was disappointed with Bullock, as he settled to shoot from the outside during the first 42 minutes of action instead of attacking the paint.
“It’s just our import took too much outside shots. He only started attacking the basket in the last six minutes of the game,” said Garcia, as Bullock only attempted six free throws in the game.
“I know our import can shoot from the outside. But the game today, siguro he became tight. Once he gets used to it, he’ll be okay.”
But more than the adjustment is the challenge that lies ahead for him. So far, Bullock is the smallest reinforcement in the 2017 Governor’s Cup, having been measured by the league office at 6-foot-3 3/4.
Bullock, however, is welcoming that challenge with open arms.
“Well, life’s a challenge. I accept all challenges and we’ll just see what happens,” he said.
