Blessings continue to pour in for Alex Cabagnot

He might have finished as the bridesmaid in the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup Best Player of the Conference race, but Alex Cabagnot made sure to have his own place in San Miguel’s Commissioner’s Cup run.

Sunday night could not have been more perfect for Alex Cabagnot. As the San Miguel Beermen finally put an end to their 17-year title drought in the Commissioner’s Cup, it was the 34-year-old who served as the Beermen’s main catalyst.

“I’m glad that it worked out,” said the Filipino-American combo guard who was adjudged as the Cignal Finals Most Valuable Player with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists — the first triple-double in a Finals game since 2005.

“I’m glad that God blessed us with this championship.”

Nearly two decades of not winning the mid-season conference title is long stretch. But now that the curse has finally been broken, the now-six-time champion believes that everything is now falling into place.2017-PBA-Commissioners-Cup-Game-6-San-Miguel-def-TNT-Alex-Cabagnot Blessings continue to pour in for Alex Cabagnot Basketball News PBA - philippine sports news

“I think it was just being fortunate getting this blessing from God. I guess we’re ready for it now,” said the 12-year veteran.

“I guess we weren’t just ready before. I guess we’re ready to share His blessings now.”

But aside from the blessings the Heavens have given San Miguel, who have now collected 24 titles, Cabagnot lauded the Beermen’s bond, saying it is their chemistry that has been bringing wonders to the storied franchise.

“We’ve been together for so long and we know the ultimate goal is for San Miguel to win,” said Cabagnot. “And whoever plays well, we accept that, pero talagang we just want to really win. If anybody else does good, we’re happy.

“But the bottom line is we have to win.”
