Rebisco-PSL Manila crumbles to Sarmayeh Bank

After a spirited effort in the 2017 AVC Asian Women’s Club Championship quarterfinals against Supreme Chonburi, Rebisco-PSL Manila could not sustain their positive momentum, falling to Iranian club Sarmayeh Bank in straight sets, 23-25, 17-25, 27-29, at the Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan.

Jaja Santiago led Rebisco with 14 points, all from attacks. Team skipper Rachel Daquis added 10 markers.

Rebisco-PSL Manila toughed through a tight first set, coming within two points, 23-22, of the an early advantage. But a Rebisco attack error followed by back-to-back Sarmayeh Bank blocks sealed the Pinays’ fate.

The Iranian side then continued throughly outplaying their foes at the net in the following set, netting six block kills and stifling Rebisco’s offense for an easy route to a 2-0 lead. The third set was again incredibly close with errors costing the Pinays a chance at extending the match.

Aby Marano helped with nine points while Kim Fajardo made four points aside from issuing 57 excellent sets.

Jovelyn Gonzaga had two points while Reyes and Maika Ortiz chipped in one point each.

Rebisco battles the loser of the Taiwan Power-Vietinbank tiff tomorrow for seventh place.
