Complete Indonesia romp Myanmar by 73 points

With Jamarr Johnson and Arki Wisnu finally cleared, the Indonesian seniors basketball team, sporting its black and gold jersey for the first time in the tournament, lambasted the hapless Myanmar team, 123-50, Wednesday afternoon at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

“We won the game because Myanmar, I think, is one level below us so we won by a big margin,” said Indonesia head coach Wahyu Widayat Jati.

The win keeps Indonesia’s perfect slate intact at 5-0 heading into their match-up against the Philippines on Thursday, May 18 at 7:00pm.

And the Indonesians, who are playing their fifth game in six days, turned the game as a glorified warm-up for Johnson and Wisnu. The 6-foot-5 naturalized Indonesian and the New York-born floor general combined for 15 first quarter points with Johnson going 4-for-4 from the field and Wisnu shooting 3-for-3.

Wisnu finished the game with seven points in just eight minutes of action, all in the opening frame. Johnson had 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block.

“They just joined the team this game, so Arki is still adjusting, also Jamarr,” Jati furthered. “It’s good for us before facing the Philippines tomorrow. I think they can give us more energy tomorrow.”

The rest of Indonesia did their part in the blowout, limiting the young Myanmar squad to just eight second quarter points that led to the drubbing. Indonesia led by as much as 75 points, 123-48, late in the final frame.

Abraham Grahita and Hadianus Lakudu scored 19 and 18 points respectively as seven players from Indonesia put up double-digits in scoring. Lead floor general Mario Wuysang played just 16 minutes, scorig three points and dishing out five assists.

Wana Aung continues to lead Myanmar, this time scoring 16 points. However, he committed seven turnovers. Han Thein added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

Myanmar finishes its campaign on Thursday, May 18 when they face Malaysia at 3:00pm.
