Pumaren-mentored Adamson waylays Tang-led Benilde to remain unscathed

In their first meeting patrolling opposite sidelines, it was mentor Franz Pumaren who took one against former student Ty Tang, as the former’s Adamson University Soaring Falcons crushed the latter’s College of Saint Benilde Blazers, 70-59, Sunday early afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Adamson maintained their perfect slate in Group B with a 4-0 record, while Saint Benilde dropped to 1-2.

Sweet-shooting Jerrick Ahanmisi poured in most of his 16 points in the huge third-quarter run, even as Tyrus Hill proved pivotal in several stretches of the game with 15 markers.

Adamson led by as much as 10, 25-15, off a Hill split from the free-throw line, but Yankee Haruna forced a deadlock at 28 near the end of the first half.

Once again, Falcons head coach Pumaren lamented what happened. “It is not yet a gauge. I am just hoping that we become more aggressive, play smarter basketball,” the multi-titled coach said.

That combativeness was evident as they limited Saint Benilde to just eight points while scoring 25. The advantage grew to as much as 22, 58-36, off an easy layup from Pape Sarr early in the fourth.

The Soaring Falcons will take on the National University (2-0) on Friday, May 19, at 11:15 am.

Clement Leutcheu finished with a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Blazers.

CSB will try to bring back their winning ways when they take on the debuting Far Eastern University on Wednesday, May 17, at 3:15 pm.
