Win over Alaska huge momentum boost for Ginebra heading into break

After a scintillating victory over the now-skidding Alaska Aces on Sunday night, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel are currently on a strong five-game roll and are third in the standings in the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup.

And veteran guard LA Tenorio could not be more relieved.

The Gin Kings will figure in a week-long break due to the SEABA Championships slated for May 12-18 — a break that might halt their rhythm as they try to sustain their run. But Tenorio remains grateful despite the challenge, as they will head into the break with a victory.

“Malaking bagay talaga na makapanalo kami kasi ang hirap mag-break ng talo eh,” shared the 32-year-old after their 103-102 victory at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum. “Mahirap makakuha ng momentum, so good thing nakakuha kami ng momentum before going on a break.

“We just have to continue to be more focused, especially pag nag-start na talaga pag natapos lahat ng break,” continued the Ginebra skipper, who finished with 11 points.

Tenorio though admitted that their five-game streak is not much of a concern for him and the whole Barangay, saying that the long breaks they had — Sunday’s game came after a 13-day break — made them think less of it.

“Hindi na nga napapansin kasi ang haba ng break,” admitted Tenorio, who is averaging 16.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.2 rebounds

“So we always remind each other na we have to give our best, na let’s just rest after the game.”

As they now head into yet another break that will span for 12 days before facing Rain or Shine on May 19, the 11-year veteran still iterated that the Barangay will never take long periods of rests, that they will continue to work out to prevent any rust issues to come by.

“Magpa-practice din kami siyempre. Hindi naman kami pwede mag-break ng one week. May mga schedules yan for sure,” Tenorio declared.
