San Sebastian, San Beda, Perpetual share top spot after opening day


Defending champions San Sebastian College-Recoletos Lady Stags, along with the San Beda College Lady Red Skipers and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Lady Altas, ended up with matching 2-0 records to forge a three-way tie at the top spot after the opening day of the NCAA Season 92 Women’s Beach Volleyball held at the Boardwalk Beach in Subic Bay, Zambales.

The tandem of Gretchel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa easily overpowered their opening day opponents. In their first match against the Mapua Institute of Technology Lady Cardinals, they fended them off dominating fashion, 21-11, 21-2. They also followed it up with a 21-17, 21-7 win over Jovie Prado and Regine Arocha of the Arellano University Lady Chiefs.

Meanwhile, the twin tandem of San Beda’s Jeza and Nieza Viray once again showed their mastery on the sands. Their opening day performance saw San Beda score a 21-12, 21-12 win over Arellano and a 21-14, 16-21, 15-7 win over the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights.

On the other hand, the Perpetual Lady Altas’ strong opening day performance rewarded them well. To begin the tournament, the duo of Marijo Medalla and Bianca Tripoli notched a hard-earned 22-20, 17-21, 15-7 win against Cherilyn Sindayen and Czarina Orros of the Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates. They also won against the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals in three sets, 21-9, 16-21, 15-6.

The second day of this tournament shall resume tomorrow starting at 7 o’clock in the morning.
