Lady Tamaraws dominate Lady Falcons for first win

After a disappointing showing on opening day, the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws picked up their first win of UAAP Season 79 at the expense of the rebuilding Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-12, 25-19, 25-16, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Coming off a game in which they had surrendered 38 unforced errors, the Lady Tamaraws limited their mistakes to 23. FEU were also dominant in all scoring skills, as the Adamson offense only generated 24 points.

“Malaking lesson sa amin ‘yung pagkatalo namin last Sunday. Sabi ko nga kung gusto namin mag-champion, hindi pwedeng ganoon lang ipakita nila. Tinaasan namin ‘yung intensity ng training,” said FEU head coach Shaq Delos Santos.

FEU could have played most of their bench players from the second set onward, but the Lady Tams’ bench faltered when given the opportunity.

“Siguro hindi pa ngayon ‘yung araw na makakapag-contribute sila. Ang expected talaga noong nagpasok ng bench is makakakuha kami ng contributions sa kanila,” added Delos Santos.

Bernadette Pons was unstoppable on the attack, piling up 15 points on 14-for-29 attacking. Remy Palma owned the net with 13 points on seven attacks, four block, and two aces.

The Lady Tams (1-1) brace for a crucial tiff on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre when they take on the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles (1-0).

“Kailangan talaga namin maghanda kasi malaking bagay sa amin na makakuha ng panalo sa kanila para makahinga sa standings,” Delos Santos said about the matchup.

Bernadette Flora led the Lady Falcons with nine points, while skipper Jema Galanza added eight.
