2016 is Myla Pablo’s year.
The former National University Lady Bulldog was highly successful on the court, offensively anchoring Pocari Sweat to a Golden Double in the Shakey’s V-League. She also finished her Marketing degree.
And now the 23-year-old makes history, becoming the first local volleyball player to land a five-year deal. She also gets a new Hyundai Accent as a reward for her recent exemplary performance.
Earlier today, Pocari Sweat and Federated Distributors Inc. (FDI) officials proclaimed their ultimate trust in the young spiker in a press conference at the Hyundai West Parañaque offices.
“We have decided to commit to her,” said team manager Atty. Eric Ty.
“We looked at her age. We looked at her capability. We looked at her durability. We looked at her commitment to the team. She was the one to approach us that she will never leave our team. A spark lit between our management committee and we thought, ‘If she wants to stay, why don’t we want her to stay?’ And we thought we’ll build around her.”
Since coming onto the team two years ago, Pablo has won a Finals MVP award in the V-League and several other individual plums in both SVL and PSL.
The open hitter also featured in the Philippine National Team in the AVC U23 and Seniors tournament in 2015.
After a tumultuous last year with NU in the UAAP, Pablo is glad she is finally in an environment that trusts her completely.
“Long-term strategy is to preserve a championship team. We’re looking at our options. We must look at the fact that theres no thing as a static team. In our case, well try our best to preserve and bring them back and maybe signing a few more to longer term contracts.
“Siyempre sobrang saya kasi may trust sila sa akin. Di ako nagdalawang isip kasi alam kong aalagaan nila ako. Nagtitiwala ako sa kanila,” Pablo shared.
Asked if there was more pressure now that she’s the franchise player, Pablo assures that she’ll repay the company’s trust with her best years as an athlete.
“Ako din naman nagulat ako dahil sa ibang teams, one year lang [ang offer sa players]. Isa ako sa player na binigyan, sobrang saya and thankful lang ako kay God and sa mga coaches. Di ko sila bibiguin,” she promised.
