Petron greases Generika’s losing slide

The Petron Tri-Activ Spikers gained momentary hold of the top spot in the 2016 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix after thrashing the winless Generika Lifesavers 25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16 at the Imus Sports Arena.

Aside from a sloppy effort in the third set, Petron were in their usual dominant form, pouring in points from all scoring skills. The Tri-Activ Spikers tallied 51 spikes, 10 blocks, and 10 aces en route to their seventh win of the season.

“Masaya ako kasi maganda ang ipnapakita nang lahat ng players. Hindi lang imports, pati yung mga locals na beterano and bata malaki ang naitulong. Kailangan na lang namin siguro bawasan pa ‘yung mga errors at ‘yung mga set na tulad noong third. Makikita mong consistent ‘yung team kapag natatapos nila ‘yung laban sa unang chance pa lang na ibigay,” thought Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos.

The standout best import in the conference, Petron’s Stephanie Niemer had another splendid outing. The open spiker hailing from Connecticut tallied 27 points on 23 kills, three aces, and a block. Petron’s other import Serena Warner finished with 13 points while skipper Aiza Maizo-Pontillas managed 12 markers.

Darlene Ramdin led Generika with 14 points while Shaya Adorador pitched in 10 markers.

Petron has a half game edge over defending champs Foton (6-1) for the top spot in the standings with a 7-1 slate. Generika, on the other hand, sits at the bottom at 0-8.

On Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre, Petron faces Cignal (1-5) at 7:00 pm while Generika takes on F2 Logistics (5-3) at 5:00 pm.
