Pau Soriano and Lilet Mabbayad have been fined and suspended by the Philippine Superliga.
The two volleybelles, who are currently playing in the Shakey’s V-League for the Bureau of Customs Transformers, have been reprimanded by the Philippine Superliga due to a breach of contract, according to a statement released by the PSL.
Both Soriano and Mabbayad recently played for the Philippine Navy-Standard Insurance Lady Corvettes. Their contracts with the PSL franchise is still running, the statement said, and will run until the 31st of December, 2016.
“Philippine Navy-Standard Insurance still hold an existing agreement with the PSL. This disallows players to participate in other leagues until December 31, 2016,” the statement read.
Because of this, both players were fined PHP 50,000 for the violation and will face a one-year suspension from the PSL.
Navy-Standard Insurance team manager Col. Joseph Cuison added that he had already warned the two players about the repercussions of playing for the BOC Transformers. Moreover, they will be sanctioned by the Philippine Navy as well.
“I’m very sorry. Matigas ulo nung dalawa,” he said in a message. “I gave specific instructions for them not to play.”
“They shall be sanctioned and it’s unfortunate that Navy will to reflect them AWOL [SIC].”
Soriano and Mabbayad have yet to make their statements about the matter as of publishing.
