WATCH: Kelly, Soriano make mark in Jakarta

The Filipino contingent that fought in ONE Championship’s Title and Titans card at the Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia Saturday evening turned capital city in to Ja-KOr-Ta.

32 year old Baguio-native Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly and 30 year old Bernard “The Hitman” Soriano scored impressive knockouts wins against Frenchman Vincent Latoel and hometown hero Mario Satya Wirawan respectively.

32 year old Edward Kelly continues to roll, this time spoiling the featherweight debut of kickboxer Vincent Latoel with a huge overhand strike with 58 ticks in the second round.

The Baguio City native outworked a strong and experienced opponent in Dutch-Indonesian mixed martial arts veteran Vincent “MagniVincent” Latoel right from the get-go.

Kelly maintained distance early in the round, knowing that one shot from the Golden Glory standout could end the match in an instant. Once connecting against Latoel, the Filipino featherweight tried to outgrapple his opponent. But as the referee broke the two fighters apart due to inactivity, the kickboxer unloaded a barrage of strikes. A flying knee by the Frenchman almost connected in the dying moments of the round.

Finding his confidence, Latoel was the aggressor in the second round – going for kicks to bully Kelly. Just like in the closing moments of the second round, the kickboxer went for a flying knee but was caught by huge left hook by the Northern man. This then followed up by a huge right for good measure to finish off Latoel.

The win moves Kelly’s slate to 8-3, 2-1 in his last three fights.

Featherweight prospects Mario Satya Wirawan of Indonesia and Burn Soriano of the Philippines kicked off ONE: TITLES & TITANS with a quick battle of two highly-motivated fighters.

The two wasted absolutely no no time as they immediately engaged by the cage fence.

“I’ve been doing this for a long, long time,” Soriano said. “I know Mario is a good striker, that’s why he was a perfect match for me because I am a counter-puncher.”

The Indonesian landed a leg kick eight seconds in but as he went for another one, the 30 year old Muay Thai practitioner waited for him, landing a spinning back fist that closed the lights of Wirawan.

“Feels good man, reminiscent of my Muay Thai competitions before in the Philippines,” Soriano, who is now sporting a 3-2 slate, added. “But man, I’m speechless right now. Thank you for supporting me.”

With a knockout that will be talked about the rest of the year, he is hoping that he could fight in the main card in his next outing.

“I belong here I guess. I want to fight in the main card,” he closed.
