The Filipino Assassin is set to take on the biggest challenge of his life.
In a report by Brazilian sports news website UOL, it was reported that Filipino-American featherweight Phillipe Nover (10-6-1) will take on one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world today and former UFC World Bantamweight champion Renan Barao (33-4) in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 95.
Nover has strung together four straight wins, including a split decision win at UFC Manila against Korean Yul Chul Nam last May, 2015. However, the 32-year-old Fil-Am had been on the other end of a split decision last December against Zubaira Tukhugov. The Brazilian Jiu-jitsu black belt needs to take this win to impress the powers-that-be in the UFC.
In the other corner, former bantamweight kingpin Renan Barao is currently on a two-fight losing streak — the first of his career. Barao’s last two losses came from former UFC Bantamweight champion TJ Dillishaw and Jeremy Stephens, the latter in his featherweight return.
The event is set to take place at the Ginásio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil – hometown of Barao – on September 25, 2016 (Philippine time).
