The main event for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s second fight card in Manila still needs a new dance partner after mixed martial arts legend BJ Penn dropped out of the card due to injury. And with the UFC still figuring out who Ricardo Lamas’ (16-5) opponent will be for the event, a number of fighters are volunteering to serve as replacement.
One of the fighters throwing their names in the mix is Filipino-American Phillipe Nover (11-7-1).
“I hear the UFC Manila card might need a featherweight contender to face Lamas,” the 32-year-old said in the post.
“Just wanna throw my name in the mix. I’ll come fight my heart out in front of my countrymen on a week notice!!”
Nover, however, is coming off a unanimous decision loss to former UFC Bantamweight kingpin Renan Barao just 12 days ago in Brasília, Brazil. The loss is his second straight after taking a split decision win against Yui Chul Nam during UFC Fight Night Manila: Edgar vs. Faber.
And with his 14 day medical suspension up in just two days, Nover feels that he is fit to headline the biggest MMA event in the Philippines this year.
