After two consecutive four-goal losses, the Philippine Women’s National Football Team finally enjoyed a win in the 2016 AFF Women’s Championships as they defeated Singapore 2-0 to end their campaign on a high note.

University of the Philippines striker Cristina de Los Reyes (5′) and University of San Francisco forward Camille Wilson (50′) provided the goals yesterday (July 30, 2016) for the Philippines at the Mandalarthiri Stadium in Myanmar. The result allowed the Filipinas to exit the competition at 3rd place in the group stage once again.

It turned out to be a pleasant afternoon for the Filipinas as they dominated the Singaporeans and were perhaps unlucky to not have scored more goals. The Philippines had thirteen shots in total at the end of ninety minutes, compared to Singapore’s one.

De Los Reyes set the tone early in the game after her strike found its way at the back of the net in just the 5th minute of play. Wave after wave of attack from the Filipinas then ensued, although they couldn’t add to the scoreline before the break. At halftime, the Philippines led Singapore by 1-0.

The Philippines, though, didn’t have to wait long to score a safety goal in the second half. Similar to the previous period, the Filipinas scored after five minutes from the second half kickoff. This time it was Wilson whose header from a corner kick at the 50th minute was enough for the Philippines to seal the win.

In the end, the Philippines defeated Singapore 2-0. After three games, Vietnam topped the group with 9 points with Thailand left below with 6 points. With the Philippines at 3rd place, Singapore finish last in the group and they end their run in the competition without a point.
