A powerhouse team just got stronger.
Blessed with the talents of Manny Ott, Adrian Gallardo and Stephan Schrock just to name a few, Ceres-La Salle Football Club announced the signing of Philippine National Men’s Football Team (Azkals) goalkeeper Roland Muller.
According to football.com.ph, Ceres-La Salle coach Ali confirmed that Muller will be signed on a long-term deal and that the latter is expected to arrive in the Philippines this July just in time for the United Football League second round.
Muller is expected to provide fierce competition for the starting goalkeeper slot against Ceres-La Salle’s incumbent number one Louie Casas and Ed Sacapano. All three goalkeepers represented the Philippines at the senior level of international football and have displayed their prowess in shot-stopping.
Whether or not Muller gets jumps in front of the queue ahead of Casas and Sacapano remains to be seen. If Muller indeed will be chosen, then it won’t be impossible for Casas and Sacapano to leave Ceres-La Salle in search for regular playing time. Whatever happens, though, this becomes a good problem for Ceres-La Salle as three standout goalkeepers are in their lineup.
In terms of the UFL’s broader picture, the addition of Muller will give local football fans the opportunity to watch him compete week in and week out. It will also be interesting to see him go up against Global FC goalie Patrick Deyto as both them and Neil Etheridge are currently the top three goalies in the recent Azkals squads.
The signing of Muller is only a positive thing for Ceres, the UFL and local football fans. It will also allow Muller to be closer to local fans and get consistent playing time. When all things are said and done, this move in a win-win situation for those involved.
