“The Ruthless” one is set to make his third defense of the UFC World Welterweight Champion in three months time.
Filipino-American Robbie Lawler (27-10) is penciled in to face the number three ranked welterweight Tyron Woodley (15-3) on July 31, 2016 in the main event of UFC 201. The event is set to take place at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
Lawler, who is a quarter Filipino, is coming off a successful split decision win over Carlos Condit during UFC 195 in what most pundits and fight fans think is the fight of the year. The match-up between the two spirited warriors went back and forth in 25 minutes of action. In the end, two of the three judges awarded the bout to the champion.
After four months of inactivity, the number six pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet will return to the Octagon to face a fellow Strikeforce alumni.
“The Chosen One” has been inactive in the UFC scene since February 1, 2015. In his last fight, Woodley was able to take a split decision win over Kevin Gestelum, who missed weight prior to the bout. However, he sustained a broken foot that kept him on the sidelines. The Missouri-native has won four of his last five bouts including his last two.
Will Lawler make another successful title defense? Or will Woodley upset the resurgent champion? Sound-off in our comment’s section below.
