UFC set to make Manila return this October

The biggest mixed martial arts promotion in the world returns to the fight capital of Southeast Asia.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to make a return to Mega Manila on October 15, 2016 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City the promotion announced Thursday morning at Maxim’s Hotel in Paranaque City.

“We are very excited to be back in the Philippine,” Kenneth Berger, General Manager of UFC Asia said. “The consistently warm reception we receive from Filipino fans and last year’s sold out event shows us that UFC has an incredibly strong following in the country.”

“Manila is a fighting city and we hope to put on another unforgettable show that will capture the hearts of Filipino sports fans throughout the country.”

The UFC made its debut last May 16, 2015 in a stacked card headlined by a featherweight dream match that saw former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar outpointing former WEC Featherweight kingpin “The California Kid” Urijah Faber.

Moreover, the event saw an all-time UFC moment as Filipino-American Mark Munoz made his emotional retirement in the cage after a decisive victory against Luke Barnatt.

No matches have yet to be booked for the card. In the current UFC roster, there are five Filipinos signed up to the promotion namely, Fil-Am and reigning UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler, bantamweight “The Magician” Jon Dodson, Ultimate Fighter finalist Philippe Nover, Fil-Guamanian Jon delos Reyes, and Team Lakay’s Roldan “The Executioner” Sangcha-An.
