Phoenix ends skid, Gula leads Globalport

Phoenix arrested a three-game losing streak with a 9-8 overtime win over Star, Friday, in the PBA-Tag Heuer 3-on-3 women’s basketball tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

After Joan Diego scored two straight to tie the count at 4-all, Katherine Merilo made a two-pointer to push Star ahead, 6-4. Diego made a two of her own, but Roscelle Teotico scored inside to make it 7-6 for the Hotshots.

Jacquelyn Suarez, however, made a foul shot with 13.6 seconds left to send the game to overtime. In the extra period, Suarez and Alyssa Vega hit the free throws that sealed the win for the Fuel Masters.

Phoenix improved to 1-3 with the win, while Star remained winless at 0-2 in Group A.
