Mamaril, supporting cast making Globalport a better unit

While Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle have been the main stars of the Globalport Batang Pier this conference, the solid supporting crew has done a tremendous job to gift the Batang Pier with a banner conference.

The reason why powerhouse teams have been successful in their respective leagues is simply because they play like one: involving everyone on the roster and drawing strength from one another. Globalport have been working hard to reach that level, starting by complementing the duo with more help.

“Teams are really taking notice of Terrence and Stanley and that is when the supporting cast should step up,” veteran Billy Mamaril said after Globalport beat Alaska, 107-93, on Monday night. “Today I had pretty good looks. Keith (Jensen) also had good looks. Everyone knows it is the playoffs and we have to be ready because this is how they are going to play us.”

Mamaril and Jensen had scored 12 points to backstop Romeo (41) and Pringle (14). Mamaril hauled down seven rebounds and was a plus-23. Aside from them, three more Batang Pier members chipped in six points apiece. Doug Kramer provided second chance opportunities early on for Globalport; even Anthony Semerad and Dorian Pena got some minutes and did their contributions.

During the knockout game against Ginebra last December, it was Jay Washington and Joseph Yeo who provided the damage.

“Terrence and Stanley can do it, but it is more efficient when everybody else chips in,” Mamaril added, proceeding to break down rosters of other contenders. “Teams are basically like that. Alaska for example, they are Sonny (Thoss), Calvin (Abueva), and JVee (Casio). That’s it then a (supporting crew). San Miguel, they’re June Mar (Fajardo), Alex (Cabagnot), and so on.”

Knowing the Batang Pier are much stronger when they do things together, Mamaril says the supporting group must do their respective roles to help the team win.

“We know what we have and we are there for a reason.”
