The Philippines made sure to leave a lasting impression during the 2015 FIBA 3×3 All Stars after a dominant 18-11 win over the Qatar U18 squad Friday night (Saturday morning in Manila) in front of a packed venue in Doha, Qatar.
Buoyed by the strong support of the Filipino community in Doha, the Philippine selection came out with guns ablaze to start the match as Jeron Teng hit two baskets early on in a 4-0 start.
Faris Advic then hit back-to-back long range baskets to cut the deficit down to only 6-4, before Kiefer Ravena put on a dazzling display with a slew of crossover moves and step-back jumpers.
Wowing the crowd with his individual skills, Ravena hit five points in a row to make it an 11-7 lead for the Filipinos.
Later on, Teng hit a floater and a two in between Bright Akhuetie’s thunderous two-handed slam which put Nedim Muslic on a poster.
Akhuetie’s slam and Teng’s two sealed the game for the Philippines, ruling the exhibition match in awe-inspiring style.
Ravena, who was also a part of the dunk contest panel of judges, later on thanked the crowd for their support.
“Maraming salamat sa inyo, mahal namin kayong lahat,” he said.
Ravena and company have definitely enjoyed their participation in the 3×3 All Stars event, even taking over FIBA 3×3’s social media accounts throughout the competition while representing Philippine basketball well and giving delight to Filipino fans in Doha.
