Shaq delos Santos is eager to work alongside Alas Pilipinas Women head coach Tai Bundit as he returns to the national team nearly seven years after last handling the squad.
Delos Santos, who served as national team head coach from 2018 to 2021, rejoins the program as part of Bundit’s stacked coaching staff, which also includes Sherwin Meneses and Benson Bocboc, among others.
The University of Santo Tomas head coach also expressed excitement about learning from Bundit, viewing the stint as an opportunity to further refine his craft under the decorated Thai mentor.
“I think good opportunity din na ma-under kay Coach Tai (Bundit). I’m sure marami kaming matututunan sa kanya,” said delos Santos.
Above all, delos Santos said he is simply grateful for the opportunity to continue doing what he loves.
“Siyempre, number one happy and thankful sa opportunity na meron ulit. Another blessing and ‘yun nga, opportunity na makapag-represent ulit ng country and makapag-share ng knowledge,” said delos Santos, whose club team Cignal recently took a leave of absence from the PVL.
While his specific role in the coaching staff has yet to be finalized, delos Santos stressed that he is ready to contribute in any capacity needed to help the team.
“Right now, wala pa talagang totally idea kung ano ‘yung magiging role ko, but I think ‘yung number one dito is siguro ‘yung pag-help kung ano ‘yung gustong maging program ni Coach Tai, and siguro ‘pag kailangan, magshi-share rin ng knowledge,” he said.
“Definitely, tutulong kami, especially ako, tutulong talaga sa best na magagawa ko.”
