Alas Pilipinas Women overpowered Mongolia in straight sets, 25-13, 25-11, 25-20, to secure a spot in the ninth-place classification match of the women’s volleyball tournament at the 20th Asian Games on Monday at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium in Japan.
The victory marked the Nationals’ second straight win after they dropped both of their matches in the group phase.
Angel Canino spearheaded Alas Pilipinas’ attack with 14 points and nine excellent digs after sitting out their previous win over Qatar.
Alyssa Solomon added 12 points, while Bella Belen delivered another double-digit performance with 11 markers and eight excellent digs as the Philippines wrapped up the 63-minute victory.
Alas Pilipinas will face Hong Kong in the battle for ninth place on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Mongolia dropped to the 11th-place classification match, where it will take on Nepal.
Ninjbolor Battur and Amarbayasgalan Batbold led Mongolia with nine and eight points, respectively, in the loss.
