Lee siblings unstoppable; Silva sends Catalan to 7th loss

Angela Lee (Singapore, 4-0) is unstoppable! Finishes Tkhorevska (Poland, 3-2) with a rear naked choke

The Filipino fight fans finally had the opportunity to see why Singaporean Angela Lee is unstoppable.

Lee tried to showcase her striking skills to open the round but Tkhorevska had none of it. A huge overhand right and a straight by the Polish fighter rocked Lee. Being the stronger fighter, Lee immediately clinched Lena and was able to throw her with an overhead belly to belly suplex. Tkhorevska was able to reverse and move to side mount then moved to a north-south position. Lee, being a master on the mat, was able to trap Tkhorevska’s head with a leg scissors before letting go with 2:13 remaining in the round. Both fighters tried to attempt knee bars of their own but to no avail. The Polish strawweight is the first fighter ever to escape the first round against Lee.

Another takedown by Lee opened the second round but was again reversed by Tkorevska. An armbar attempt by the Brazilian Jiujitsu specialist was escaped by Tkorevska but Lee switched to side control. With 1:41 left, Angela Lee sunk a tight rear naked choke and resulted to a submission win. Her fourth finish in four fights.

Angela Lee was emotional after the fight as she dedicated this fight to Yang Jian Bing. “I happen to meet him during my debut fight. He’s a great guy and rest in peace.”

The Singaporean plans to take a break from action and promises that she will be fresh come the new year.

Puccibull (Brazil, 4-1) fends off “The Archangel” Engelen’s gallant stand (Indonesia, 3-1)

Evolve MMA’s Bruno Pucci was taller and younger compared to Indonesian Anthony Engelen. After a gallant stand by Engelen, he succumbs to the ground skills of Pucci in two rounds.

The Brazilian immediately goes for the shoot to open the match and was quickly able to lift Engelen for a takedown. From there, Engelen was able to wall walk his way back to his feet but “Puccibull” was able to secure the back of the Indonesian. Pucci sensing blood immediately went for a rear naked choke with three minutes to go. Engelen, not letting go of the opportunity of a life time, tried to fight out of the choke attempt. The Indonesian was able to survive the round even after multiple tight chokes by Pucci.

Again the fighter out of Evolve MMA took “the Archangel” down with ease to open the second stanza. The Brazilian immediately goes to side control while a sharp elbow at the three-minute mark cuts Angelen. 19 seconds later, Pucci was able to lock another rear naked choke for the submission win.

Alex “Little Rock” Silva (Brazil, 3-1) sends Ruel “The Wushu” Catalan (Philippines, 2-7) to seventh career loss

After a two and a half year absence, Alex Silva was rusty to say the least. Going against Wu-Shu fighter Ruel Catalan, Catalan was hungry for the win. However, it was not meant to be for Catalan as the Brazilian submitted him with a knee bar with a minute to spare in the first round.

Silva immediately went for the shoot to open the match but Catalan displayed great takedown defense early on. At the 1:05 mark, Catalan attempted a d’arce choke but to no avail. The wu-shu practitioner though was penalized with a yellow card by referee Yuji Shimata due to a sharp elbow to the back of Silva’s head.

After the break, Catalan connected with a huge right head kick. Nonetheless, Silva continued the pressure eventually securing a takedown after a leg trip. Catalan was able to reverse into the mount and connected with huge bombs. The Brazilian though was able to secure a grapevine on the Filipino’s knee eventually securing a knee bar for the submission win.

“It feels so great to fight once more,” Silva shared after the fight. “I’m just happy to be here especially since it’s my first time to fight here in Manila.”

Catalan though was disappointed and tried to laugh his seventh career loss off. “Salamat sa pagsuporta sa akin,” he said to the audience. “Sorry talaga. Babawi ako sa susunod.”

Christian “The Warrior” Lee (Singapore, 1-0) makes quick work of David Meak (Australian, 1-5)

Christian Lee has had high pressure on him ever since announcing his MMA debut. The younger brother of Angela Lee did not succumb to the pressure in making a huge impression in his debut.

The 17 year old Singaporean was quick on his feet, stalking Meak in the first few seconds of the match. At the 4:40 mark, Lee landed a solid left hook that made Meak retreat. Another left hook knocked the Australian out with 4:33 to spare for Lee’s first professional MMA win.

“I’m just so happy fighting right here in Manila,” Lee said after the match. “My whole game plan is to dictate the pace.”

“My sister and I are exciting fighters. When we have the opportunity, we attack!,” the 17 year old declared.
