After Barangay Ginebra absorbed a 94-86 loss to Rain or Shine Sunday, head coach Tim Cone said his team is still trying to get to a level where they can compete and stand their ground against the league’s powerhouses.
“We just didn’t have a good game from anybody tonight. It’s credit to them. I’d like to give San Miguel (credit too), we’re just not at their (two teams) level right now,” Cone shared.
“It’s obvious, you can see it, they are a tighter team than we are, they understand what they want to get done, and we’re not there yet. It’s still early for us, we are trying to get better, and hopefully we will.”
Rain or Shine went to a running game, scoring 24 fastbreak points. The Elasto Painters also outrebounded Ginebra 42-39 and had a 31 percent shooting clip from downtown.
Cone added Ginebra was not able to defend to keep Rain or Shine away from what it was ought to do.
“They were playing inside out. The bigs were outside, the guards were inside, our guards didn’t do a better job of rebounding or playing like bigs, and our bigs didn’t extend out,” he said.
At 4-4 and with three games remaining, Cone hopes the team can improve its position prior to the playoff round.
“We will do what we can. We have three games left, we have to do something with it.”
