The Adamson University Lady Falcons continued to ride the UAAP Season 80 roller coaster, slamming the National University Lady Bulldogs, 25-19, 25-15, 18-25, 25-13, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Adamson, fresh from a discouraging stretch of surprising losses, dispatched an NU team — that had beat them on opening day — in four sets.
The Lady Falcons scored their first win over NU since Season 75. The Lady Bulldogs, on the other hand, remain winless in three matches in the second round.
Adamson took advantage of NU’s generous hand with errors. The Lady Bulldogs gave up 23 errors in the first two sets alone, leading to quick results.
It was Adamson’s errors in the third set that gave way to NU’s comeback as the Lady Falcons gave up 13 errors. In the final frame, the San Marcelino-based squad rattled off a 10-0 run to pull away, 21-10, and seal the win.
“I mean we knew how important this match was today for us. Every game from here on out, we’re playing to get to the Final 4. We told them earlier, it’s not Adamson versus NU, it’s not like a regular game. This is gonna be the basis of our survival for the season,” thought Adamson head coach Airess Padda.
Jema Galanza led the Lady Falcons with 16 points, while middle blocker Joy Dacoron added 13 markers.
Jaja Santiago was NU’s only bright spot, scoring 21 points on 17-for-42 attacking.
The Lady Falcons improve to 5-5, and next take on the white-hot Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles (7-3) on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The Lady Bulldogs slump to 6-4, and will face the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses (3-7), also on Sunday.
