Yeng Guiao rues free throw disparity versus Alaska, to ask PBA for review

After the NLEX Road Warriors was able to draw first blood against the Alaska Aces Monday evening, coach Yeng Guiao was not pleased with the way the game was officiated. Even if his side won, the fiery mentor did not hold back in expressing his dissatisfaction with the lack of free throws they were awarded compared to Alaska.

“We couldn’t get fouls.

“I guess the story of this game is just too many free throws given to the other side, and we couldn’t get fouls on our end,” Guiao lamented even after steering NLEX to its first-ever playoff win.

NLEX attempted 18 free throws in the contest and converted on 14. On the other hand, the Road Warriors were assessed with 36 fouls that led to 44 free throws attempts for the Aces.

At one point in the contest, the seven-time champion coach was slapped with a technical foul with 2:10 left in the third canto as he contested a foul called on Michael Miranda against Calvin Abueva.

With this, Guiao plans to have a sit down with the league to review the entire contest.

“Sobrang dami ng free throws sa kabila. We will check with the office if it’s really that many, kung talagang ganoon nga karami,” Guiao furthered.

“Ako medyo naalangan ako kung lahat noon ay may foul.”

Still, the Road Warriors were “lucky” enough to pick up a 105-99 win to move to just a win away from making it to NLEX’s first-ever appearance in the semifinals.

“We’re just lucky,” he said.
