Jaycee Marcelino had another solid outing for the Zark’s-Lyceum Jawbreakers on Tuesday night. And it couldn’t be a more fitting performance, as it came at the expense of his former school, the Adamson University Soaring Falcons.
Marcelino had 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists in Zark’s 83-76 win, to extend their streak to three. And for head coach Topex Robinson, he is certain that Jaycee, along with twin Jayvee, had an extra motivation while facing Adamson.
“They really are driven,” shared the youthful bench strategist. “Remember they came from Adamson.
“Bago sila na-ligaw sa Lyceum, sa Intramuros, they used to play for Adamson. So they really are motivated to play.”
But Jaycee downplayed the remarks, saying that there was no plot of vengeance against the Soaring Falcons, where he and his brother had been part of the school’s Team B squad back in 2015, when coaches Kenneth Duremdes and Mike Fermin were still at the helm before Franz Pumaren took over.
“Hindi naman po. Hindi ko nga rin po alam na ganito ilalaro ko. Suwerte lang siguro ngayon,” the 22-year-old guard insisted. “Wala naman po kami (ni Jayvee) na gustong patunayan kasi kami naman po nagdesisyunang umalis doon dati.
“Wala naman pong ganun.”
The 5-foot-10 guard was simply glad that he and the Jawbreakers had chalked up yet another victory. For him, this is all the result of their hard work following their 2018 Aspirants’ Cup opening day loss to the Marinerong Pilipino.
“Siguro nung natalo kami sa first game, natuto kami kaya nag-work hard pa kami sa ensayo,” said Marcelino, who is averaging 14.7 points so far.
“Extra work pa kami sa practice para iyong kakalabasan ng laro hindi na talo.”
