The Adamson Soaring Falcons ended the year with their fourth straight win, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-13 in another nail biter of a match to end the Men’s Volleyball games for 2014 held at the San Juan Arena.
The Falcons started out on fire with their successive attacks led by Michael Sudaria and rookie Jerome Sarmiento during the opening set. Adamson erected a quick cushion to distance themselves from La Salle thanks to their superior floor defense to open up their game.
After the first set, the remainder of the game was closely-contested all throughout. La Salle led the entire second set but the Falcons kept close. Blocking worked for the Green Spikers as they halted Adamson to take the second set.
Errors piled up for La Salle in the last part of the third set as they lost grip against the Falcons. The defense stood tall as Adamson’s blocking, led by Sudaria, denied the La Salle hitters. Despite La Salle winning the fourth set and carrying their momentum heading into the pivotal fifth, Adamson had enough firepower anchored by Sudaria and Bryan Saraza to distraught the La Salle offense and seal the deal for their fourth consecutive win.
Adamson improves to a 4-1 slate and ties UST at the second spot. La Salle gets their fourth loss in five games as they tie UP with a 1-4 record and are sitting at second to the bottom of the standings.
Adamson went cruising in terms of attacks, 53-45, and scored more in service aces, 7-3. The closely contested match was also due to tight net defense as La Salle edged Adamson in a match filled with an array of blocks, 15-14. Adamson had 36 errors compared to La Salle’s 34.
Adamson’s starters came to play once again with all of them scoring at least four points. The winning squad was led by Sudaria and Saraza who both had 19 points. Sarmiento added 16 including two service aces.
The soaring Falcons will next face the UST Golden Spikers in what promises to be an exciting one. On the other hand, La Salle seeks to improve its record, also against UST. Both games will happen in January after the Christmas break of the UAAP.
