Pido Jarencio vows to continue courting UST: ‘Manliligaw pa rin ako’

It’s been more than a full month since the University of Santo Tomas accepted the resignation of Growling Tigers head coach Boy Sablan. But even in that span of time, there has been no clear frontrunner to take the mantle of the team’s chief tactician.

During lunchtime of December 25, Jarencio, who was on his way to the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan, as he and the Globalport Batang Pier made their Season 43 debut, sent out another tweet that signified his intention to return to UST.

This is just one of the many tweets and messages he sent about UST.

Even with the signals he has been sending, Jarencio is saddened that UST, just like an ex-girlfriend, are still not calling back.

“Ang tagal sumagot eh. Pero okay lang, manliligaw pa rin ako,” said the 53-year-old UST legend.

“Nagpapaturo nga ako kung sino marunong manligaw eh para mapasagot ko.”

Jarencio had been the head coach of UST from 2006 to 2013. With him steering the wheel, the Growling Tigers won a UAAP championship (2006) and two second place finishes (2012, 2013). He compiled a 66-62 record in the UAAP.

Even with the cold shoulder he is getting, Jarencio says he will be cavalier as he plans to continue courting UST even if he is still handling Globalport.

“Madali naman tayo, matibay tayo. Wala naman tayong ibang alam kung hindi basketball lang,” Jarencio pitched to UST.

“Sana ba kung science ang usapan di ko na kaya yun, o kaya football. Basketball din naman yun eh. Isa lang ang trabahong gagawin natin.”
