Personalities who have made significant showings in the PBA’s 42nd season are about to be honored by sportswriters who regularly cover the league in the 24th PBA Press Corps Awards on November 30 in Gloria Maris in Cubao, Quezon City.
Leading the list of honorees are Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s floor general LA Tenorio; Globalport Batang Pier’s franchise player Terrence Romeo; and newly-minted Rookie of the Year Roger Pogoy of the TNT Katropa.
The 35-year-old Tenorio will receive the Order of Merit award thanks to his numerous Player of the Week citations. Throughout the season, the 2017 Governor’s Cup champion and Finals MVP earned four POW honors.
On the other hand, Romeo will once again be heralded as the Mighty Sports scoring champ for the third straight season. Even if he missed a few games due to Gilas Pilipinas, he still averaged a league-best 23.3 points per game.
Pogoy will be leading the All-Rookie Team. The former Far Eastern U standout will share the honors with Phoenix Fuel Master’s Matthew Wright, Ginebra’s Kevin Ferrer, Star Hotshots’ Jio Jalalon, and Kia Picanto’s Reden Celda.
And speaking of the diminutive yet talented Jalalon, the former Arellano University Chiefs star will also be named as the league’s Mr. Quality Minutes — the award given to a player who had contributed the most off the bench.
Other awardees include Ginebra coach Tim Cone and Star’s Marc Pingris, as both men are at the forefront of the All-Interview Team, together with Tenorio, Meralco Bolts’ Ranidel De Ocampo, and TNT Katropa’s Jayson Castro.
Other awards to be given out will be the Virgilio ‘Baby’ Dalupan Coach of the Year award, Danny Floro Executive of the Year award, Bogs Adonardo Comeback player of the Year award, and the Mighty Sports Defensive Player of the Year plum.
The PBAPC will also have its first-ever Game of the Season award on Thursday night.
