PAGADIAN, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR — Zamboanga Sibugay’s 71-70 win over Pagadian in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Challenge last December 3 was overturned.
The Warriors were defaulted after not fielding a homegrown player in the match.
The decision came after a five-day deliberation by the league after Pagadian’s brass filed a protest.
The league’s rule for this conference is teams must have one homegrown player on the floor at all times.
During the defaulted match, Zamboanga Sibugay wrongly put Jeff Acain in the homegrown players list, while he is in the VisMin players list.
In effect, the Explorers went up and finished the elimination round at 7-5, tied with BYB Kapatagan for second but they have the edge with a better winning margin.
Meanwhile, the Warriors fell down to 6-5, knotted with Roxas for fourth but have the tiebreaker for winning both of their games.
Zamboanga Sibugay will cap its elimination round tomorrow against Basilan BRT at 4 pm.
