In Fnatic ONIC PH’s debut in MPL Philippines Season 14, Brian “SpiderMilez” Santos was noticeably absent from the frontlines, despite many expecting him to be in the starting lineup. His absence raised questions, as he had been a key player for the team in previous seasons.
Coach Anthony “Ynot” Senedrin later explained to Tiebreaker Times that SpiderMilez’s absence wasn’t due to any issues but was part of the process of finding the right fit for the team. He pointed out the significant difference in playstyle between SpiderMilez and Borris “Brusko” Parro, which led to the decision.
“I think it was more on finding the right fit. Kumbaga, since historically, alam naman ng mga tao na magkaibang-magkaiba yung laro ng Brusko sa SpiderMilez. It’s more on kung saan ba ang pinakamgandang fit si Milez,” said Ynot.
Despite not playing in the first game, SpiderMilez remained highly involved with the team during practice sessions.
The second-year ONIC head coach expressed his gratitude for his dedication, noting that even though SpiderMilez wasn’t on stage, he was still keen on helping his teammates improve. This level of commitment was appreciated by the coaching staff.
“I’m grateful nga actually on him kase even if, yun nga, hindi siya nakakapaglaro ngayon, he’s still very active sa team, still very much part of the team, and he’s not really shy at giving his feedback pagdating sa mga kakampi niya,” said Ynot.
As SpiderMilez continues to integrate into the squad, his development has been evident.
Ynot highlighted the significant improvement SpiderMilez has shown since last season, adding that he is eagerly anticipating his return to competitive play.
“Yung improvement niya actually from last season, sobrang laki na, and actually isa ‘yon sa mga inaabangan ko kapag maglalaro na siya,” Ynot shared.
In addition to his technical growth, SpiderMilez’s maturity has also been a crucial factor in balancing the team.
Known as the most veteran member of ONIC PH, SpiderMilez brings a level-headed approach, even while displaying a playful side that contributes to team chemistry.
“Makulit din siya [pero] tahimik lang siya. Pero ang gusto ko naman sa kanya hindi naman pala siya yung tititigan ka lang. He really has that maturity sa pag-balance ng team,” said Ynot, noting that even the younger players like Brusko benefit from this dynamic.
Ynot concluded by emphasizing his appreciation for SpiderMilez’s presence, both on and off the stage.
“I’m just really grateful that he’s here with us sa team, and even if hindi pa siya nakakapaglaro, ramdam na ramdam mo yung impact niya. Yun pinakagusto ko talaga kay Milez.”
