ONIC PH rockets to MPL PH top spot with sweep over Team Falcons

ONIC Philippines secured their third win of the season with a commanding 2-0 sweep over the struggling Team Falcons PH in Week 3 of the MPL Philippines Season 16 on Friday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.

With the victory, the Sonics surged to the top of the standings with a 3-1 record.

Head coach Tony “Ynot” Senedrin acknowledged that Team Falcons PH has been struggling, possibly due to fielding two different exp laners this season, but he lauded his players for delivering a solid performance.

“Hindi ko masabing totally pangit yung performance nila (Team Falcons PH). Nandun pa rin naman yung spacing nila and yung decision-making nila makikita mo sa mapa. Siguro lang, baka nagkakaron sila ng adjustment in between FlapT and Ferdz,” said Ynot, referring to the Falcons’ recent roster shuffle.

The team competed in the IESF qualifiers last week with David “FlapTzy” Canon, while Edferdz “Ferdz” Fernandez has been their mainstay in the exp lane this season.

“Overall, okay naman (ang Team Falcons). Kailangan ko pa rin ibigay yung credit dito sa players ko kasi naovercome nila yung mga plays ng Falcons,” he added.

The opener was a one-sided affair, as King “K1NGKONG” Perez spearheaded ONIC PH’s dominant showing. He drew first blood on Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo (Grock) within the first two minutes of the match, then picked up a double kill during a decisive 11th-minute lord dance.

He went on to finish with nine kills and four assists without a single death in ONIC’s 16-minute win.

Game 2 was a much tighter battle, but Borris “Brusko” Parro (Kalea) came up big in the 17th-minute lord dance, scoring two kills in a lengthy skirmish that led to a 3-0 wipe.

That breakthrough allowed ONIC to break the midlane inhibitor turret and close out the series.

For Team Falcons PH, the loss marked their fourth straight defeat—all via sweep—dropping them to the bottom of the standings with a 1-4 record.
