The University Athletic Association of the Philippines will discuss the possibility of holding just two events in two separate bubbles for its shortened Season 83 tournament.
According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, the league’s Board of Trustees has scheduled to meet this week for the plans for the upcoming season, slated to begin on April 2021.
One scenario on the table is to only hold “centerpiece events” men’s basketball and women’s volleyball.
According to one of Tiebreaker Times’ sources, this will serve as a “run” for TV5 for Season 84 and beyond.
UAAP Executive Director Rebo Saguisag alluded to that scenario during a guesting on Power & Play.
“We’re all about equality in sports, kaya lang siyempre with our partners, we also have to consider iyong commercial side. Unfortunately, when you talk about that, talagang iyong flagship events ang napag-uusapan. Iyan ang mga tinitimbang namin,” he said.
“Hindi pa sinasabing tuloy, pero iyan ang pinag-aaralan.”
The league is hoping that varsity teams receive permission to train after the Christmas break for this to push through.
It also decided that De La Salle University will host both UAAP Season 83 and 84.
